ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Taylor Scott made her first-ever career appearance Saturday in the final day at the Flagler Invitational as the Flagler College softball team fell to the University of West Georgia, 3-0, at Flagler Field.
The righty transfer got the starting nod and tossed two innings, while striking out two and allowing two runs on four hits and a trio of walks. Senior
Kyra Gipson relieved Scott in the third inning after the redshirt sophomore put two runners on base with zero outs; however, Gipson retired the next three in order for Flagler (2-2) She struck out seven over five innings and allowed one run and a walk on six hits.
The Saints had chances in scoring position in the third inning when
Valerie Beltre (2-for-3) slapped an infield single and stole second with two outs. In the next inning,
Kyleigh Taylor led off with a hard-hit ball to shortstop and Beltre did the same again in the bottom of the sixth, but the Saints were never ever able to piece it together.
Mackenzie Smith also had one of the Saints' four combined hits versus pitchers Kayla Hughes (W, 1-0) and Macy Ann McKnight for West Georgia (2-1).
Flagler will be back in action with a single game versus Ursuline College at Flagler Field Sunday at 2 p.m.
