ST. AUGUSTINE –
Marcus Henderson poured in a season-high 25 points as No. 14 (NABC Division II Top 25) Flagler College defeated USC Aiken 76-63 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler won its 10
th game in a row and improved to 12-2 overall and 10-1 in the Peach Belt. The 10 conference wins ties last year's total, which was the most in a single season since joining the PBC in 2009-10 season. USC Aiken had its three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-6 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
"I thought that was a gritty win by our team," said head coach
Chad Warner. "I think Aiken plays as hard and defends as well as anyone in our league."
Both teams struggled to put the ball through the hoop in the first half as Flagler took a 25-22 lead into the break. USCA shot 28 percent from the field while Flagler was slightly better at 31 percent.
The Saints opened the second half on a 7-0 spurt to take a 32-22 lead.

Henderson's three-pointer, one of six he had on the night, with 3:18 left to go gave the Saints the necessary breathing room at 67-61. Flagler closed the game on a 9-0 run.
Metzger finished with 13 points as he made 6-of-7 from the field for Flagler.
Derrick Ellis, Jr. added 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
