ST. AUGUSTINE – A four-run third inning helped lead No. 19 (Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 25) Valdosta State University to a 7-2 win over Flagler College in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Valdosta State won its third game in a row and improved to 6-3. Flagler is still searching for its first win (0-6).
Already leading 1-0, the Blazers loaded the bases with one out in the third. EJ Doskow drew a walk to plate the second run and a grounder to the Flagler third baseman
Myles Colangelo was bobbled letting another run to cross the plate. Ralph Morla, Jr. followed with a two-run base hit that found its way through the hole between third and short to give the Blazers a 5-0 lead.
That's all Jeremy Adams (1-0) needed to pick up the win on the hill. He tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just one hit with five strikeouts.
Morla collected two singles and knocked in a pair of runs. Doskow went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs batted in, and he scored two runs.
Donovan Garcia hit a two-run single in the sixth for the Saints.
Jett Walsh (0-1) allowed five runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked five batters and struck out four.
Jake Hill,
Daniel Fischer,
Nick Phifer, and
Sam Cooper worked in relief.
Flagler heads to Augusta University for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series, which opens on Friday at 6 p.m. at SRP Park, home of the Augusta GreenJackets, a Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
