Saints fall to Bulldogs in NCAA tournament play

ANDERSON, S.C. – Rebekah Machovec, Jordan Berglin, and Molly Boyd each had five kills in Flagler College's 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-18) loss to Wingate University in the second quarterfinal match of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Thursday afternoon at the Abney Center.

Wingate, the No. 4 seed, improved to 24-4 overall and will take on the top seed, Lenoir-Rhyne University, tomorrow in a semifinal match. Flagler ends its season with a 21-6 record. That is the 18th time in the last 21 years the Saints have won 20 or more matches. This was Flagler's 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Kennedy Muff, Flagler's all-region setter, tallied 16 assists, three kills, and three digs. Machovec, Berglin, Victoria Bowrosen, and Edie Lamoreaux each had five digs.

Quin Sutphin and Molly Lambillotte each had seven kills for the Bulldogs. Shannon Kasprak tallied 25 assists and recorded nine digs to go along with three total blocks. Marianna Warren finished with six service aces.

Wingate held Flagler to a -.074 hitting percentage, the lowest since Nov. 1, 2014 at Armstrong State University.

The Saints came out in the third set and quickly grabbed an 8-2 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied back and tied the score at 14 after a Sutphin kill. Flagler drew even at 15 after a kill by Boyd. However, Wingate scored the next three points and went to take the set.
