Saints win eighth PBC regular season title with 3-1 win

ST. AUGUSTINE – Kennedy Muff recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 33 assists and a team-high 13 digs as Flagler College clinched the Peach Belt Conference regular season title with a 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17) win over Augusta University Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 19-4 overall and 9-0 in the Peach Belt. The Saints will try to become the 11th team in conference history to go unblemished in a single season and the first since Armstrong State University went a perfect 18-0 in 2013. Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Friday (Nov. 12) in the regular season finale at 6 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium. The Saints will honor their four seniors prior to the match.

Augusta had its three-match winning streak snapped and fell to 18-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

The Saints have won or shared eight PBC regular season titles and this is the second consecutive crown for the program. Flagler has won the regular season outright on five occasions (2009, 2010, 2017, 2020, and 2021).

Muff also added eight kills, four block assists, and three aces. Jordan Berglin recorded her third double-double of the season with a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs. Logan Garcia and Molly Boyd each recorded nine kills and five total blocks for the Saints. Boyd finished with a .533 hitting percentage as she had only one error on 15 swings. Her nine kills were a season-high. Rachel Machovec chipped in with seven kills, nine digs, and three total blocks.

For the seventh time this season, Flagler recorded 10 or more total team blocks. The Saints also had 10 aces, which marks the sixth time they have posted double figure aces.

Chloe Allen recorded a match-high 16 kills and she complete the double-double with 16 digs for the Jaguars. Kylie Martin added 10 kills. Samantha Zittrauer notched a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs. Holland Martin added 16 digs.

The Saints held a 24-19 lead in the first set, but the Jaguars rattled off five straight points to knot the score. After a Flagler timeout, an Augusta hitting error made it set point and the Saints wrapped it up thanks to a double-block by Muff and Garcia.

In the second set, Flagler rallied from a 17-12 deficit and were tied with Augusta at 23 after a kill by Garcia. But two hitting errors by the Saints squared the match at 1-1.

The score was tied at 22 in the third set, but the Saints got a kill from Berglin and a hitting error from the Jags to take a 24-22 lead. After Augusta had a kill to pull to within one, Garcia ended the set with a cross-court kill.

Flagler used an 8-2 run midway through the fourth set to take command. Berglin's ace capped the run and gave the Saints a 16-9 lead. The match ended on a hitting error by Augusta.
