AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Jordan Berglin had a team-high 11 kills, including one on match point, along with nine digs in top-seed Flagler College's 3-2 (25-23, 27-25, 19-25, 22-25, 15-11) win over the No. 5-seed Lander University in the second semifinal of the Peach Belt Conference's Volleyball Championship Saturday evening at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With the win, Flagler (21-4) advances to the conference tournament final for the third time in a row and 11
th appearance since joining the league in 2009. Flagler will face Augusta University, the No. 2 seed, in Sunday's championship match at 1 p.m. Lander's season concludes with a 13-13 record.
The Saints started the fifth set by scoring the first three points, thanks to a pair of miscues by the Bearcats and a kill by
Rebekah Machovec. Lander rallied from a 5-2 deficit and tied the score at 5-all after a kill by Olivia Dow. But a kill by Berglin, the PBC Freshman of the Year, and a block, the Saints took a 7-5 lead, one they would not relinquish.
Flagler hit .217 in the final set with seven kills and two errors on 23 swings.
Logan Garcia added 10 kills, hit .381, and recorded five total blocks for the Saints.
Molly Boyd added nine kills and three total blocks.
Rebekah Machovec finished with eight kills, eight digs, three aces, and she tied her career-best with six total blocks.
Rachel Machovec supplied eight kills and 13 digs.
Kennedy Muff, the PBC Setter of the Year, tallied 43 assists and capped off her eighth double-double with 11 digs. She also racked up seven kills.
Edie Lamoreaux collected a team-high 26 digs.
Maya Walker led Lander with 16 kills and a .519 hitting percentage. Christina Aguayo recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs. Daria de Carvalho Peixe chipped in with 13 kills and Dow finished with 11 more. Maddie Moss had a double-double with 55 assists and 13 digs. Patricia Pantoja collected 26 digs.
