MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Jaziana Mathis scored a career-high 26 points, but it wasn't enough as Flagler College lost its first road game of the year to Florida Tech, 82-73, in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at the Clemente Center.
Florida Tech improved to 1-2 while Flagler is now 2-1.
Mathis capped off her third career double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds, which tied her career best. She sank four 3-pointers, made 11-of-22 from the field, and dished out a career-high five assists.
Taylor Gardner added a season-high 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists for the Saints.
It was a high-scoring first half as the Panthers held a 50-45 lead. The Saints shot a blistering 73.3 percent (11-15) from the field in the second quarter.
A 9-2 run by Florida Tech at the end of the third quarter that bled into the early stages of the fourth provided enough separation. Fanny Hakanson sank a three-pointer with 2:45 left in the third to give the Panthers a 64-60 lead and that started the spurt.
Flagler would get as close as five (76-71) after a
Staci Miller basket with 3:03 left in the game.
Severine Uggen led four Florida Tech players in double figures with a game-high 29 points. She made 12-of-19 from the field and sank five 3-pointers. Hakanson finished with 14 points and a game-high eight assists.
Flagler takes on another Sunshine State Conference foe in Saint Leo University, on the road, tomorrow at 7 p.m.
