ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Flagler College women's soccer team closed out the regular season by picking up its 12th win and sixth straight in a 3-0 victory versus Georgia College in the Peach Belt Conference match Saturday at Saints Field.
Flagler has now recorded six straight shutouts, while scoring 22 goals to head into the PBC Tournament, beginning next Saturday at home, with the right kind of momentum on the Saints' side. Stay tuned for the complete tournament schedule that will be released in the coming days.
"We started the game very well with a good early goal from Brin," Flagler head coach
Ashley Martin said. "Georgia College caused us problems today with their pace up front, and they fought extremely hard. We took our chances when we had them and were able to keep a clean sheet."
The scoring started early when
Brin Wexler found the back of the net for the sixth time this year in the second minute. Wexler cleaned up a header from
Andrea Fernandez after the freshman headed it back into the box — following a long send from
Liz Hall — to make it 1-0 early. The Saints scored their second of the afternoon in the 27th minute courtesy of
Andrea Fernandez, who scored her Peach Belt Conference leading 11th goal, off a pass from
Moa Arlebo for her second assist of the year.
Flagler would strike one more time before the first half ended — with less than 30 seconds remaining in the half — as Fernandez added onto her goal total with another. The freshman collected the ball following a blocked shot and put it away on the far post to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.
Flagler goalkeeper
Madison North earned her second straight clean sheet, and fifth overall, while making a season-high seven saves against the Bobcats (8-8, 3-6).
