ROME, Ga. — Competing in the ITA Cup,
Luisa Hrda represented Flagler College as the first women's tennis player in the Division II era to win an ITA Southeast Regional, and she did it well as she finished 2-1 over the three-day tournament at the Rome Tennis Center, beginning Thursday morning.
"I believe Lu had a great weekend at the ITA Cup," Flagler head coach
Rodrigo Puebla said." As I mentioned beforehand, this is a huge accomplishment for her and our program. It's never easy to go and compete against the best of the country, but it's an experience she can take and use to remember to always focus on playing her best in every match.
"I think Lu learned a lot this past weekend, and now we will go back and share her experience with the rest of our team to put forward and prepare for a very challenging spring season."
In the first round, Hrdá fell to the eventual tournament runner-up Mae Canete of Central Oklahoma (7-5, 6-2), but she didn't stay down for too long. The junior bounced back, winning the next two matches with the first coming versus U-Indy's Isabella Dunlap (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) and capping her stay with a straight-set win against Southern New Hampshire's Natalie Kallmunzerova (7-5, 6-4).
So far this season, Hrdá is 11-1 and has lost only three sets. She and her teammates will wrap up the fall with a tournament at Barry University, beginning November 12 in Miami Shores, Fla.
