JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On the brink of its spring regular season, the Flagler College women's tennis team jumpstarted its first of three exhibition matches Saturday afternoon at the University of North Florida, falling 7-0.
 
 "I am so happy that we are able to be back on the court competing since almost a year," Flagler College head women's tennis coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "The girls fought well, but we definitely have a lot of room to improve in order for us to play at the level we need to have a successful season. We are looking forward to host our first home exhibition match next Friday."
 
Flagler will host Eastern Florida State College at 1 p.m. Friday, January 29.
 
The Saints played the Ospreys tight in doubles as the duo of Florencia Massardo Brain and Amelie Vossgaetter defeated Valentina Mariotto and Annabelle Davis, while Anika Nissen and Alessandra Traub were the last to finish in a close (7-5) loss to Constanza Gorches and Lucia Montano. A rain delay haltered singles play for a bit, but it didn't keep newcomer Luisa Hrda from going three sets with Ana Paula Melilo. The transfer from Georgia Southern University won the first before dropping the next two, 6-3, 5-7, 4-10.
 
Like in doubles, Traub was the final singles match to conclude. The junior battled in the second set, scoring more than the first before Constanza Gorches secured the No. 3 singles match. Massardo Brain, Nissen and Amelie Vosgaetter battled in their sets, knocking off some rust and holding steady in their first sets, while Eden Schlagenhauf had a tough matchup with the Osperys' No. 1 Lucia Montano.
