COLUMBUS, Ga. — It's a win streak the No. 14 Flagler College men's tennis team needed.
Now with three straight wins under their belt following a statement 7-0 sweep of the University of Montevallo Friday at the Walden Tennis Center in Columbus, Ga., the Saints are marching in the right direction.
Flagler (4-5) worked through the unpredictable moments from Mother Nature as newly paired No. 2 and No. 3 doubles of
Rodrigo Carvalho/
Rasmus Jonsson and
Felipe Carvalho/
Tommaso Bagon secured the doubles point for the Saints.
"The conditions were tough as it was warm and cold, gusty winds and then nothing, on off all the time," Director of Tennis and men's head coach
Thomas Hipp said. "Tomorrow, we need a top performance to beat a very strong team in Azusa. We saw them versus CSU before our match."
From there, the Saints adjusted to the conditions as
Luca Bolla and
Cedric Holzmann raced to straight-set victories, with it being Bolla's fourth straight individual win and Holzmann's first collegiate win.
The Carvalho brothers followed suit, continuing their win streaks as Rodrigo snagged his fourth concoctive win, while Felipe completed his third in three-set victories.
Jiri Jenicek hauled in his third straight victory, and then Jonsson secured his back-to-back win in thrilling fashion as he battled back down, 5-1, to secure the sweep defeat of Montevallo (3-3).
Up Next: The Saints will wrap up their two-match road trip with No. 8 ranked Azusa Pacific University at 11 a.m. Saturday.
