GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander University rallied to score three runs in the last two innings to down Flagler College 3-2 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game at Dolny Stadium.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Lander (11-7 overall, 5-4 PBC) got a pair of singles to start the frame and the next batter was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Ethan Jones (2-2) came on to close the game for the Saints and he got the first batter he faced to pop up to first base. He walked the next batter, which scored a run, and Mike Fitschen hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game. Jones got the last batter to pop up.
Bryce Jackson (1-0) came on to pitch for the Bearcats and he retired the side in order.
Josh Gregory led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to center. The next batter popped up to first base and Gregory was able to reach third. Justin Wager ended the game with a sacrifice fly to center, which scored Gregory.
Matthew Burgess singled twice and scored a run.
Jaiden Warde drove in both runs for Flagler (12-7, 4-6). He hit an RBI single in the second inning and drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth.
J.T. Marr collected two singles and scored two runs.
Zach Audet started on the mound and tossed seven-plus innings. He allowed two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts. Audet retired the first seven batters he faced and allowed just two hits through seven innings.
The same two teams will meet tomorrow at 2 p.m.
