GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander University used a second half push to defeat Flagler College 83-60 in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal game Wednesday night at Finis Horne Arena.
Lander (21-8), the No. 3 seed, will advance to the semifinal round where it will host No. 7 seed Georgia College on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The final four for both men's and women's basketball tourneys in the PBC will be played in Greenwood, South Carolina.
The Bearcats held a 37-32 lead at the half and opened the second half on a 13-4 run. A Morris Robinson, Jr. layup with 15:11 left gave Lander a 50-36 lead.
Flagler (14-15) would rally and closed to within seven (58-51) after a
Damerit Brown layup with just over seven minutes remaining.
Lander scored the next 10 points to put the game out of reach.
Robinson scored a team-high 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. DeShundre Rucker added 12 points and five rebounds while Deon Berrien tacked on 11 points. LaRaymond Spivery grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Lander held a 48-28 advantage on the boards.
Damir Hadzic led the Saints, who were making their first PBC Tournament appearance, with 16 points.
Gedi Juozapaitis added 14 points and six rebounds.
Chris Metzger finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high six blocked shots.
