ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College took advantage of three Augusta University errors, four hit batsmen, and four walks in a 12-2 victory Sunday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game at Drysdale Field.
The error bug came in the second inning for the Jaguars. After a double by
Josh Shrouder put runners on second and third,
Ja'Kobi Dasher hit a bouncing ground ball to Ben Markiewicz at third base who could not come up with the ball cleanly. That allowed the first run to score. The next batter,
Jaiden Warde, hit a grounder to Markiewicz at third. Markiewicz threw to second base, but the throw was off target and another run scored.
Three batters later,
Adam Mitchell hit a two-run single to right-center to plate two more runs. He collected three singles, scored a run, and drove in three.
Flagler (12-6 overall, 4-5 PBC) sent 14 men to the plate in an eight-run third inning. Shrouder had two RBI in that inning as he had a single and was hit by a pitch.
Colt Mink (3-1) retired the first 10-of-12 batters he faced, including striking out five in a row. In six innings, he allowed one run on eight hits and struck out a career-high 10 batters.
Jett Walsh and
Tyler Schwartz went the rest of the way.
Shrouder went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and he scored two runs. Dasher singled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs.
Carrington Evans went 2-for-3 with a double and one run batted in for Augusta (4-12, 2-7). Skylor Murphy, Trent Maddox, and Markiewicz each collected two singles.
John Michael Law (0-3) surrendered four earned runs on five hits to pick up the loss.
Flagler will get ready for a three-game conference series at Lander University starting Friday at 6 p.m. at Greenwood, South Carolina.
