ST. AUGUSTINE – Eckerd College struck for four runs in the second inning and never looked back in an 8-1 win over Flagler College in the final game of the Old Coast Classic Sunday afternoon at Flagler Field.
Six of the first seven hitters in the second inning for Eckerd (3-3) reached on a single. Ally Costa hit an infield single with the bases loaded to plate the first run for the Tritons. Lauren Margolis followed with a two-run single up the middle.
Meanwhile, Hannah Perkins (2-1) retired 15 of the first 17 batters she faced in route to the win. She allowed one run on four hits. Perkins retired 12 batters on fly outs and six more on ground outs.
Flagler (6-2) struck in the fifth inning.
Maria Kappos led off the inning with a double down the left field line. She moved to third on a ground out and scored on
Alyssa Velez' ground out to third base.
Natalie and
Morgan Murphy each had a single along with
NaJah Gerrald.
Madelyn Wise (1-2) allowed four runs on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Sidney Mathis finished the game and surrendered three earned runs on five hits.
Margolis finished the game with two singles, two runs batted in, and she scored a run. Kaylin Kramer went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Jessica Wilson singled twice and scored a run. Skylar Redish hit a bases-clearing double in the sixth.
Flagler will venture out on the road for the first time this season next weekend. The Saints will play in the Saint Leo Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
