Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 5 Saint Leo edges No. 7 Flagler

SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 5 (Oracle/ITA Division II ranking) Saint Leo University edged No. 7 Flagler College 4-3 in a non-conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.

"We lost a tough match to Saint Leo today," said director of tennis Thomas Hipp. "We looked like ourselves today and played tennis like we have trained. We had courage and played to win."

Saint Leo (1-0) captured the first point after Bruno Faletto and Nicolas Bacella defeated Felipe and Rodrigo Carvalho 7-6(3) at No. 2 doubles. Luca Bolla and  Jiri Jenicek won No. 1 doubles for Flagler (1-2).

The Saints trailed 3-0 in the match until Bolla won his singles match after Faletto had to retire in the first set with the score tied at 6-all. Felipe Carvalho followed with a straight sets win, but Alexander Parker clinched the match for the Lions with his victory at No. 2. Rasmus Jonsson won his match at No. 4 singles for Flagler.

Flagler opens its home schedule on Feb. 16 against Palm Beach Atlantic University at 4 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
