ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College's
Gedi Juozapaitis poured in a game-high 30 points, but Augusta University held on for an 84-82 victory in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler (11-11 overall, 7-7 PBC) opened the game on a 22-10 run with Juozapaitis providing 11 of those points.
Augusta (15-7, 10-4) would chip away and take a 44-43 lead at the half.
The Jaguars took their largest lead (76-67) after a short jumper by Tyshaun Crawford with 6:46 left.
The Saints answered with a 13-2 run over the next 3:46 as
Chris Metzger scored the last six point of the spurt including a layup with 2:13 left to give Flagler an 80-78 lead.
Metzger answered a three-pointer by the Jags with a dunk to give the Saints the lead back, 82-81, with 1:28 left.
Tyree Myers buried a three-pointer with just over a minute left as both teams could not make basket in the final 63 seconds.
The game featured seven ties and 11 lead changes.
Juozapaitis sank eight 3-pointers and also grabbed nine rebounds for Flagler. Metzger finished with 16 points and six boards while
Damerit Brown added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Derrick Ellis, Jr. tallied eight assists.
Myers and Troy Cracknell led five Augusta players in double figures with 17 points apiece. Crawford added 15 points, seven rebounds, and he blocked four shots. Rafael Monteiro and Miguel Arnold tacked on 14 and 13 points, respectively. Myers tallied nine assists.
Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at 7:30 p.m.
