AMERICUS, Ga. – Flagler College's
Ivana Boyd scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, but it wasn't enough in a 65-56 loss to Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Storm Dome.
The Saints jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead, but the Lady Hurricanes answered with a 10-2 run and never trailed the rest of the game.
N'Mya Pierce's layup and following foul shot cut the GSW lead to 51-48 with 8:48 left in the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as Flagler (6-18 overall, 4-14 PBC) would get.
Lex Chatman led all scorers with 17 point for Georgia Southwestern (9-15, 5-13). Jamesha Samuel came off the bench to add 15 points while Madison Johnson contributed 11 points and six rebounds. Kayla Smith recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Tamecia Blue tallied seven assists.
The Lady Hurricanes cashed in 21 Saints turnovers into 19 points.
Boyd notched her second double-double of the season for the Saints. Pierce led Flagler with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Kierra Crane and
Tori Pearce each added 11 points.
Flagler will play its penultimate home game on Wednesday (Feb. 26) at 5:30 p.m. against Clayton State University.
