JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville University needed a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to rally past Flagler College 59-52 in a women's basketball game Monday night at Swisher Gymnasium.
Jacksonville, a member of NCAA Division I and the Atlantic Sun Conference, improved to 2-3. The game was an exhibition for Flagler.
Jaziana Mathis hit a 10-foot jumper to give the Saints a 49-45 lead with 6:14 left to go in the game.
However, with 4:01 left, the Dolphins' Khalela Hayes drove the lane for a layup and drew a foul on the play. She sank the free throw, and the old-fashioned three-point play started the 14-0 run.
Jacksonville shot 50 percent from the field in the fourth quarter while Flagler was limited to 28.6 percent.
DeShari Graham scored 12 of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter for the Dolphins. Jada Perry came off the bench to provide 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Jacksonville grabbed 21 offensive rebounds that led to 25 second chance points and the Dolphins forced the Saints into 22 turnovers which led to 27 points.
Beka Benge came off the bench to lead the Saints with 15 points, all on five made three-pointers.
Sadie Russell added 14 points, seven rebounds, and dished out five assists.
Tori Pearce tallied a team-high eight assists.
Flagler will head down to Miami to face Florida International University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the final exhibition game of the season.
