ITA Regional recap: Schlagenhauf makes singles final, trio compete in semis

BELMONT, N.C. — All four Flagler College women's tennis players secured at least one win, while a trio won three matches over the weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament played at the Reidy Tennis Center.

With play concluding Saturday, Eden Schlagenhauf, Alessandra Traub, and Anika Nissen all made the semifinals, where Schlagenhauf had to face her own teammate in Traub to advance to the singles final for the second consecutive year. Columbus State University's Beatriz Lopez defeated out Nissen before taking Schlagenhauf down to the wire in the singles final.

In doubles, the Flagler duo of and Nissen/Schlagenhauf played extremely well, making it to the finals, but fell to the University of North Georgia's Vaishali Jorge/Claud. Labonte-Frey. In the consolation final, Flagler doubles pair Paloma Martinez/Traub defeated Rafaela Villanueva/Cibeles Zuddy of North Georgia for the win.

"We were very excited to be able to compete again after seven months," Flagler College head women's coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "The girls had a tough time getting back to the routine of school and practice, but I believe they were able to maximize the opportunity.

"It was nice to have Eden playing the finals for the second year in a row but having three girls out of four in the singles semifinals and a duo of doubles in the finals shows that our program is improving every year and moving into the right direction."
