ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College volleyball team broke out the brooms today and swept two matches to finish the two-day Flagler Saints Invitational with 3-1 record Sunday at Flagler Gymnasium.
The Saints coasted to a 25-16, 25-9, 25-17 win over Southern Wesleyan University.
Rachel Machovec paced the Saints with a match-high 11 kills and added seven digs to go along with four total blocks. She recorded one-third of the Saints kills.
Kennedy Muff added 27 assists while
Kayla Norelli collected 10 digs.
Flagler hit .263 in the match with 33 kills and 13 errors on 76 swings. The Saints limited the Warriors to a .000 hitting percentage (20-20-83).
Amber Bass led Southern Wesleyan with seven kills while Olivia Johnson tacked on six more. Hadley Smith tallied 10 assists.
In the nightcap, the Saints rolled past the Tars 25-20, 25-17, 25-17.
Rachel Machovec led the Saints with 12 kills and hit .259 in the match.
Karlie Redfern added 11 kills and hit a sizzling .529 with only two errors on 17 swings. Muff tallied 36 assists and Norelli collected a match-high 13 digs.
The Saints hit a season-best .378 with 42 kills and had only 11 errors on 82 swings. Flagler served up 11 aces with Machovec and Norelli each picking up three.
The Tars hit .111 and were led by Abby Harbinson, Erin Burke, and Harper Smith who each had five kills. Rachel Reeve tallied 19 assists.
The final tournament records were Flagler (3-1), Shorter (3-1), Newberry (2-2), Rollins (2-2), and Southern Wesleyan (0-4).
Up next is the Flagler Saints Classic this upcoming weekend (Sept. 13-14). The Saints open with the University of West Georgia (noon) and Walsh University (7 p.m.) on Friday.
