VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Flagler College women's cross country team finished in third place at the season opening Valdosta State University Border Clash Friday evening at Freedom Park.

The Saints bunched six runners together finishing in Nos. 13-18 place to help score 75 points.

"We mismanaged our pacing a bit and lost some of our pack as a result, but overall we looked good today," said Brian Beil, Flagler head cross country coach. "Over the next few weeks our new leaders will start coming into their own and our whole front pack will move up with them. We certainly have work to do, but we showed a lot of promise today."

Malia Cryan led the Saints sextet with a 5K time of 20:15.6. Jessie Mescal (20:15.8), Faith Mark (20:16.1), Madison Peele (20:16.2), Lindsey Williams (20:16.3), and Allison Horwitch (20:25.7) all followed Cryan.

Reagan Bush finished in 24^th place with a time of 20:58.5.

Aspen Gordon from the University of Tampa led the 76-woman field with a time of 18:43.4. Her teammate, Sydney Rhodes, finished second at 19:05.1.

The Spartans shared first place with 29 points as four point scorers finished in the top 10. The University of North Georgia also tallied 29 points as they had all five point scorers finish in the top eight.
 
Up next for the Saints is the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 14 at 8:30 a.m. at Gainesville, Florida.
