GREENWOOD, S.C. – Flagler College closed the match on a 7-2 run to defeat Lander University in five sets (25-23, 25-27, 25-16, 10-25, 15-11) Friday night in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match at Finis Horne Arena.
Flagler won its third match in a row to improve to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in the PBC. Lander, who had won six-of-its-last-seven, fell to 10-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Saints trailed 9-8 in the deciding set when a service error by Ross ignited the Saints run. A
Rachel Porada ace prompted a Lander timeout.
Kennedy Muff and
Rachel Machovec had back-to-back kills to give the Saints a 13-9 lead.
Logan Garcia added a kill to put Flagler up 14-10 and later,
Rachel Machovec ended the match as she was able to get the ball down on the Bearcats side.
Rachel Machovec and
Karlie Redfern led a balanced Flagler attack with 11 kills apiece. Redfern completed her fourth double-double of the season as she collected a career-high 23 digs.
Rebekah Machovec added nine kills, six digs, and four total blocks. Muff tallied 43 assists while
Kayla Norelli collected a season-high 28 digs as well as two aces.
Hannah Hritz led the Bearcats with a match-high 18 kills and added three total blocks. Kyra Ross recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 13 digs. Reilly Kuenstler chipped in with 13 kills. Madilyn Reed recorded a double-double with 47 assists and 12 digs. Hannah McManus collected 31 digs.
Flagler closes out its five-match road trip tomorrow at the University of South Carolina Aiken at 2 p.m.
