ST. AUGUSTINE – Columbus State University's Sam Sowerbrower tossed a complete game six-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament Pool B game Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Columbus State closed out its season with a 31-20 record and a 1-2 mark in pool play. Flagler ended its year with a 30-23 record and a 1-2 record in pool play.
Sowerbrower (5-2) had a shaky first two innings, but after that, he only allowed four base runners. He struck out seven batters.
He got all of the offense he needed in the first inning. Grant Berry led off the game with a double, and two batters later, he scored on a ground out. Berry went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Three RBI singles in the sixth helped the Cougars provide more than enough insurance for Sowerbrower.
Cooper Wallace (0-3) took the loss on the hill for the Saints. He allowed three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Seven different Saints recorded a hit.
Elliott Schubert hit a double and was hit by a pitch.
