Eagles down Saints in regular season finale

ST. AUGUSTINE – Reanne Drayton's solo home run in the fourth inning proved to be the game-winning hit as Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University defeated Flagler College 4-1 in a non-conference softball game Wednesday afternoon at Flagler Field.

Embry-Riddle improved to 23-19 while Flagler wrapped up its regular season with a 30-22 record.

The Eagles scored a run in the first off Flagler starter Kyra Gipson (18-10). Katlyn McCue started the fourth inning and retired the first two batters, but Drayton hit the first pitch she saw over the left field fence.

The Saints struck for their lone run in the bottom of the fifth. Maria Kappos' single to the gap in left-center scored Genevieve Mangini from second base.

That was all of the offense Flagler could muster off Embry-Riddle starter Jayla Jackson (13-8). She scattered three hits and allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings of work in the circle. Jackson tallied five strikeouts. Lisa Hop earned her fourth save of the season after tossing a scoreless 1 2/3 innings in relief. She fanned three batters.

After issuing a lead-off walk to NaJah Gerrald in the bottom of the first, Jackson retired 16 of the next 18 batters before hitting Mangini with a pitch in the fifth.

Maggie Scott singled twice and scored a run. Mariana Pereira also collected two singles, scored a run, and drove in another. Meritxell Blesa finished with two base hits and she had one run batted in.

Gipson took the loss as she allowed one run on four hits in three innings pitched. McCue and Alayna Savaglio also saw time in the circle.

Tatum Morgan, Haley Kirinsky, and Jamie Greenwood all had one single.

Flagler turn its attention to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament May 3-4 at Dahlonega, Georgia.
