WINTER PARK, Fla. – Back-to-back RBI singles by
Sean Lawlor and
Steven DiPuglia capped a three-run fifth inning and Flagler College went on to defeat Rollins College 7-5 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Alfond Stadium.
Flagler extended its winning streak to nine game and improved to 25-17. Rollins dropped to 22-14.
Justin Neo greeted Rollins reliever Kyle Kramer (1-2) with a lead-off single in the fifth inning. He moved to second when
Dillon Reed drew a walk and then both runners advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by
Frankie Martello.
Jason Moore lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Neo and give the Saints a 2-1 lead. That's when Lawlor and DiPuglia followed with their run-scoring singles.
The Tars answered with two runs in the home half of the fifth, but the Saints capitalized on a Rollins miscue to score two unearned runs in the sixth and took a 6-3 lead.
Martello hit an RBI single in the sixth and scored on Moore's double to left.
The Tars threatened in the ninth as they had the bases loaded with two outs, but Flagler's
Nick Martinez got the last batter to fly out to right field.
The Saints trotted out nine pitchers, but it was
Austin Kunde (1-0) who came away with the win. He tossed a scoreless fourth inning, allowed one hit, and struck out a batter. Martinez picked up his fourth save of the year as he walked one and fanned one in the ninth.
Moore went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in to lead the Saints offense. Reed hit two doubles, scored two runs, and had one RBI. DiPuglia went 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI.
Kramer took the loss for the Tars. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning and allowed three runs on three hits.
Jack Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI for the Tars. Sam LaFontaine finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and he scored two runs.
Flagler plays its final Peach Belt Conference home series this weekend starting with a single game Thursday at 7 p.m. against UNC Pembroke at Drysdale Field.
