ST. AUGUSTINE – Less than 24 hours after Young Harris College and Flagler College combined to score 39 runs on 54 hits in 20 innings, the pitchers ruled the day in a 2-0 Young Harris win on Sunday at Drysdale Field.
Young Harris raised its record to 19-10 overall and 8-5 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dipped to 16-16 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
Mountain Lion starter Drew Wilson (1-2) tossed a complete game one-hit shutout as he faced just two batters over the minimum. The only hit he allowed was a flare base hit to right field by
Frankie Martello. Wilson had walked a batter and hit a batter earlier, but both of those runners were eliminated on double plays. He induced 14 ground outs and 10 more fly outs.
Young Harris scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Tucker Greer led off the game with a walk and took third on Zavier Lushington's single to right. A wild pitch scored Greer and Lushington took second. A passed ball moved the runner to third and a ground ball scored the second run of the game.
Lushington collected three singles and scored a run for Young Harris. Tyler Washington hit two singles.
Blair Calvo (0-1) pitched well in his longest outing of the season. He scattered six hits and allowed one earned run in 6 2/3 innings. Calvo struck out a season-high six batters.
Cooper Wallace finished up by pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Flagler visits Florida Tech on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Melbourne.
