ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College pitching issued seven walks and five of those scored runs as Auburn University at Montgomery rallied for a 7-2 victory Wednesday night at Drysdale Field.
Auburn Montgomery improved to 13-9 while Flagler fell to 13-12.
The Saints held a 2-1 lead going into the top of the fifth inning, but a lead-off walk to Zach Cumbie got the Warhawks rally started. Two batters later, Quinterrious Arrington drew a walk.
That spelled the end of the day for Saints starter
Jett Walsh (1-2).
Noah Allen came in to replace Walsh.
Allen got the first batter he faced out on a ground ball back to the mound, but both runners moved up a base. Matthew Zielonko hit a single to right, which scored both runs and Auburn Montgomery took a 3-2 lead.
The Warhawks added four more runs in the seventh and the inning started with three consecutive walks. Jonathan Brandt hit a two-run double off reliever
Kyle Hansen.
Josh Flowers (1-1), who was making his first start in four appearances, scattered seven hits and allowed just two runs to earn his first victory of the season. He induced 10 ground outs and five more fly outs.
Brandt went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs batted in, and he scored a run. Zach Feaster finished 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI. Arrington hit a single, drew two walks, was hit by a pitch, and stole two bases.
Walsh allowed three runs on three hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Dillon Reed hit a solo home run in the third inning to give Flagler a 2-0 lead.
Austin Davis hit two singles and scored a run.
