COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Gedi Juozapaitis scored a game-high 18 points and
Vaughn McCall added 16 more, but Flagler College was defeated by Columbus State University 68-60 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Lumpkin Center.
Columbus State improved to 13-14 overall and 8-13 in the Peach Belt. The Cougars clinched the No. 8 seed in next week's conference tournament with the win. Flagler dropped to 8-19 overall and 5-16 in conference play.
The Cougars went on a 13-3 run midway through the second half to pull away from the Saints. A Stanley Taylor basket with 12:14 left to go tied the game at 44-all. Landrius Horton sank a four-foot jumper to cap the burst and gave Columbus State its largest lead (55-47) with 8:57 left.
DeMari Davis' basket with 1:20 left closed the deficit to four points (64-60), but Flagler could not get any closer.
The Saints cooled off in the second half, as they made 31.4 percent (11-35) from the field as opposed to the 50 percent (14-28) clip they shot in the first half. Flagler was held to 24 percent (6-25) shooting from three-point range.
Taylor led the Cougars with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Bryant Givens added 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Jalen Thomas chipped in with 11 points. Horton grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Davis grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Jeffercy Jean contributed nine points and eight rebounds.
Flagler concludes its season on Saturday against UNC Pembroke at 3:30 p.m. on "Senior Day" at Flagler Gymnasium.
