Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Flagler loses on a buzzer-beater Monday night

ST. AUGUSTINE – Damerit Brown scored 16 of his team-high 19 points in the first half, but it was a three-pointer at the buzzer that pushed William Jessup University past Flagler College 77-74 in a non-conference men's basketball game Monday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

"I hurt for our team," said head coach Chard Warner. "Losing at the buzzer leaves you with an awful taste. I give credit to William Jessup as they made big shots down the stretch. We have to tighten some things up and be better, which we will be."

Jourdan Johnson sank a 3-pointer from the left corner with the clock expiring for William Jessup (7-3), a NAIA Division I school from Rocklin, California. Johnson poured in a game-high 27 points and made six treys for the Warriors.

Flagler (4-4) led by as many as 11 points, but William Jessup closed the game on a 17-6 run. Isaiah Milan scored six consecutive points in that run and his free throw on the traditional 3-point play gave the Warriors their first lead (73-72) since the 16:13 mark in the first half.

Sam Howlin made the second of two free throws with 55 seconds left to give WJU a 74-72 lead.

Gedi Juozapaitis stole the ball from Milan and then drove the lane for a layup to tie the score at 74 with 16 seconds remaining.

With two seconds left, Juozapaitis blocked Milan's shot out of bounds. Milan in-bounded the pass to Johnson who sank the shot at the buzzer.

Milan finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Luis Medearis added 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Oliver Amajoyi chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Juozapaitis recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He added five assists and three blocked shots. Brown sank six 3-pointers on his way to his 19-point tally. Tyler Collier and Damir Hadzic each contributed 12 points.

Flagler opens Peach Belt Conference play on Thursday at Georgia College with a 3:30 tip time.
