Saints advance with hard-fought 2-1 win over the Lady Railsplitters

ST. AUGUSTINE – Concepcion Sanchez picked a perfect time to score her first goal of the season. She knocked in a corner kick with just 1-minute, 4-seconds left in regulation as  No. 3 (United Soccer Coaches) Flagler College edged Lincoln Memorial University 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.

Flagler (21-0-1) advances to the third round where it will face Wingate University (15-4-2), a 1-0 winner over the University of North Georgia today. The site will more than likely be Saints Field in St. Augustine, Florida, but the NCAA will make that announcement early in the week. That match will determine the winner of the Southeast Region. The South Region final will also be held at the same site. Lincoln Memorial (17-5-0) had its eight-match winning streak snapped.

"Lincoln Memorial came here with a very good game plan," said head coach Ashley Martin. "They made things very difficult and frustrated us. We talked about the adjustments we had to make at the half and finally got our breakthrough with about 90 seconds left with the winner."

Maria Castoino Mujica's corner kick found Sanchez open at the far post at the top of the goal box. Sanchez, with one touch, powered into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Saints their first lead of the match.

In the 59th minute, Josefine Nilsen was situated in front of the goal and tapped in Castorino Mujica's cross for the equalizer.

Jessica Cravero scored the goal for the Lady Railsplitters as she tapped in Rachel Taylor's corner kick in the 36th minute.

Sarah-Lisa Dubel tallied four saves, three of which came in the second half, for Flagler. Emanuely Costa recorded 10 saves for LMU, including several diving saves.

Flagler out-shot Lincoln Memorial 19-10, including holds a 12-5 advantage in shots on frame. The Saints also held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
