Saints clinch a share of the conference regular season title with sweep

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Karlie Redfern recorded a season-high 20 kills to help lead Flagler College to a sweep of UNC Pembroke 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

Flagler (22-7 overall, 9-3 PBC) clinches at least a share of the regular season title. USC Aiken (24-4, 8-3) has a 2-0 lead over Georgia College at the time of this release. The Saints have now won or shared six PBC regular season crowns (2009, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2019).

Flagler also earned the No. 1 seed in next weekend's tournament having split with USC Aiken. The Saints lost at USCA 3-2, but won at home 3-1. The tiebreaker goes in favor of Flagler for winning five sets to USCA's four.

UNC Pembroke finished the season with a 15-20 overall record and a 2-10 mark in the conference. The Braves will be the No. 6 seed. The official bracket for next weekend's tournament comes out later today.

Rachel Machovec recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. Rebekah Machovec added nine kills and six digs. Kennedy Muff tallied 40 assists and had three aces while Kayla Norelli collected 20 digs, including her 2,000th of her career. Only Casey Gnann (2009-12) has more digs at Flagler with 2,428.

The Saints finished the match hitting .261 with 52 kills and 17 errors on 134 swings.

Ashley Caesar and Shannon Skryd each recorded seven kills for UNC Pembroke. Casey O'Quinn tallied 18 assists while Anna Heinz collected 27 digs.  

Flagler receives a bye in the first round of the PBC Tournament and will play in the semifinals on Saturday (Nov. 23). The Saints will take on the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed. All matches will be played at the Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C.
