MORROW, Ga. – Jordan Knight scored his first goal of the season, and it was a golden goal, to give No. 3 seed Clayton State University a 2-1 overtime win over No. 6 Flagler College in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Laker Field.
Clayton State (14-5-0) had a set piece near midfield. The ball was lobbed into the box where Brad Kay served the ball over to Knight who touched the ball into the goal with 57 seconds left in the first overtime period to send the Lakers on to the semifinal round on Friday against No. 2 Lander University.
Peik Koskinen scored the equalizer for Flagler (4-12-1) in the 65
th minute.
Jonas Schmitt found an open Koskinen to his left and Koskinen played the ball toward the right corner and scored.
The PBC's leading goal scorer, Ryan King, got the Lakers on the board first with his tally in the 16
th minute.
Theo Blachon tallied four saves for Clayton State while
Andrea Lubbia corralled six shots for Flagler.
Flagler's
Dan McGuire, the PBC Player of the Week, took five shots in the match with three on frame.
The Lakers out-shot the Saints 16-13 and held an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Clayton State had five corner kicks to Flagler's one.
