ST. AUGUSTINE –
Annie Habeeb scored both goals as No. 3 (United Soccer Coaches D2 Top 25) Flagler College defeated Lander University 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal match at Saints Field on Tuesday night.
Flagler(17-0-1), the top seed in the tournament, advances to the semifinal round where it will meet the No. 4 seed Columbus State University on Friday at 11 a.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia. Lander's season ends with a 6-9-2 record.
Habeeb got the Saints on the board quickly as she headed in a pass from
Josefine Nilsen, the PBC Player of the Week, in the 6
th minute.
She then scored the insurance goal in the 76
th minute as
Charlene Nowotny and
Sara Sandberg combined on the assist to Habeeb as they found her in front of the goal mouth for the tap in.
Sarah-Lisa Dubel turned in her seventh clean sheet of the season and had a tranquil evening in goal as she did not face a shot on frame. Sarah Owen collected eight saves for the Bearcats.
Flagler out-shot Lander 16-4 and had a 10-0 difference in shots on goal. The Saints had six corner kicks while the Bearcats had one.
NOTES: Flagler broke its single-season record for wins with 17 (won 16 in 2017)…Flagler advances to the conference tournament final four for just the second time (last in 2017)…Habeeb has scored four of her 13 goals this season against Lander…She scored two goals in a 3-2 overtime win vs. Lander on Nov. 2.
