ST. AUGUSTINE – Brad Kay scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 48
th minute as Clayton State University defeated Flagler College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.
Josh Rodgers collected a loose ball at midfield and booted a pass to Kay, who was streaking toward the goal box on the right-hand side. Kay scooted the ball to the left of the Flagler goalkeeper to put Clayton State (9-3-0 overall, 2-0-0 PBC) ahead 2-0.
Just over two minutes later,
Peik Koskinen took the ball away from a Clayton State player and sent a touch pass to his left to
Stefan Zec-Bobek. He had two Laker defenders close by, but Zec-Bobek blasted a shot 35 yards out that beat the diving Clayton State goalkeeper to his right to get Flagler (1-10-1, 0-3-0) on the board. It was Zec-Bobek's first goal of the season.
Theo Blachon recorded four saves for the Lakers while
Andrea Lubbia had one save for the Saints.
Flagler out-shot Clayton State 15-6 and held a 5-3 advantage in shots on frame. The Saints also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 5 p.m. at Saints Field.
