Saints sweep a pair of matches in New York

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Flagler College swept a pair of matches in the Empire State with wins over Adelphi University (25-20, 25-21, 29-27) and Molloy College (25-22, 25-20, 25-14) Friday evening at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

The second match saw Flagler (11-6) snap Molloy's (15-4) seven-match winning streak thanks to Kayla Norelli who tied a school record with seven aces. The Saints recorded 15 aces as a team, which was three shy of tying the school record.

Karlie Redfern led a balanced Flagler attack with eight kills as she hit at a .333 clip. Rachel Machovec added seven kills and seven digs while Rebekah Machovec chipped in with six kills. Kennedy Muff tallied 28 assists and Norelli paced the defense with 13 digs. Logan Garcia hit .444 with five kills and just one error on nine swings.

Molloy, which competes in the East Coast Conference, was led by Carly Banks and her 11 kills. Sophia Smith tallied 28 assists and Jessica Fischetti collected 15 digs.

The Lions were held to a .143 hitting percentage in the match, which is the second-lowest mark for the team this season.

In the first match of the day, Redfern recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 kills and 18 digs for Flagler. Rachel Machovec added seven kills and nine digs while Rebekah Machovec tacked on seven kills and three total blocks. Norelli collected 20 digs while Muff registered 25 assists. Rachel Porada had three aces.

Sara Mandreja led Adelphi (9-4), a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, with 13 kills and she added seven digs. Cara McKenzie added nine kills. Brenna Valsted recorded a double-double with 27 assists and 15 digs. Katarina Warburton collected 21 digs.

The Panthers were held to a .059 hitting percentage, their second-lowest mark of the season.

Flagler wraps up its trip to the Big Apple tomorrow when it visits Queens College for a match at noon in Flushing, New York.
