Men’s cross country to see a loaded field on Saturday

ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College men's cross country team will face some of NCAA Division II's top teams on Saturday at the Lewis Crossover at Romeoville, Illinois.

"We are excited to be heading to the Chicago area for the first time," said head coach Brian Beil. "We are looking to both test ourselves against some of the best programs in the country and represent Flagler College in a region where our beautiful town and school are less well known."

The field features 34 teams and 11 of those are ranked in the latest USTFCCCA Division II National Coaches' Poll. The defending national champions, No. 4 Grand Valley State University along with No. 6 Augustana University of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, No. 7 Missouri Southern State University, and No. 8 University of Southern Indiana headline the race. Other teams who are ranked nationally are No. 11 Michigan Tech, No. 17 Walsh University, No. 18 Cal State San Marcos, No. 19 the University of Alabama at Huntsville, No. 20 University of Sioux Falls, No. 22 Saginaw Valley State University, and No. 25 Wayne State University of Detroit, Michigan.

Six of the eight regions of NCAA Division II will be represented. Those regions are the Midwest, West, Central, South, Southeast, and South Central. Flagler is the lone school from the Southeast Region. The University of Alabama at Huntsville is the lone South Region representative.
