Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brown does it all for Flagler tonight

AMERICUS, Ga. – Damerit Brown poured in a career-high 35 points and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds in Flagler College's 78-60 victory over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Storm Dome.

Flagler improved to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the Peach Belt. Georgia Southwestern lost its ninth game in a row and fell to 2-14 overall and remains winless in conference play (0-10).

"It is always great to get a win on the road in this league," said head coach Chad Warner. "A lot of guys played well tonight and that has to continue to happen for us to be successful. Our time is coming."

Brown also broke a school record with 15 made free throws, and never missed an attempt, which ties a school record. The previous record for made free throws was held by Jeff Burdette who sank 14 against St. Thomas University on Jan. 25, 1991.

The Saints held a slim 33-32 lead at the half and trailed 44-43 after an Andre Statam three-pointer with 12:21 left to go.

Flagler went on an 18-0 run over the next 2:47 and never looked back. A pair of technical fouls on the Hurricanes led to four made free throws by Brown during the run. Kris Totoris sank three free throws after being fouled on a shot attempt from behind the arc. The Saints made 83.3 percent (20-24) of their free throws in the game.

Vaughn McCall and Totoris each scored nine points for Flagler. Chris Metzger finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

Quenten Taylor and Grant Howard both tallied 13 points for Georgia Southwestern. Taylor added five assists. Jamari Dean led the Hurricanes with eight rebounds.

Up next for the Saints is Francis Marion University on Saturday (Jan. 26) at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium on "Jersey Mike's Subs Day."
