ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven took control of the game right away and never looked back in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-11) sweep of Flagler College in a non-conference volleyball match at Quealy Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
New Haven, a national quarterfinalist last year, improved to 8-3. Flagler fell to 3-7.
The Chargers hit an efficient .379 with 41 kills and only eight errors on 87 swings. They were led by Mallory Nowicki and Sydney Strasner as they each recorded 10 kills. Nowicki finished with a .600 hitting percentage while Strasner hit at a .588 clip. Kristine Rios tallied 17 assists, nine kills, nine digs and seven service aces. Brianna Mirmina gathered 15 digs.
The Saints were held to a season-low .021 hitting percentage.
Karlie Redfern led Flagler with 10 kills and nine digs.
Kayla Norelli collected 15 digs while
Tara Savisky tallied a match-high 18 assists.
Up next for Flagler is Southern Wesleyan University on Friday (Sept. 14) at 5 p.m. at Central, South Carolina.
