ST. AUGUSTINE – Oliver Drakenhammar's goal in the 81
st minute proved to be the game-winner as Francis Marion University edged Flagler College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday evening at Saints Field.
Francis Marion won its second consecutive match and improved to 3-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 2-6-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
Gaspard Mianne was able to send a touch pass from the left sideline over to Martin Coughlan about 10 yards away. Coughlan found a streaking Drakenhammaer who dribbled into the penalty box and fired a shot inside the left post.
Henrique Salomao scored the equalizer for the Saints in the 57
th minute.
Kyle Doherty passed to his left to Salomao who then took the ball into the box and scored.
Jonas Dovland put the Patriots on the board with his goal in the 18
th minute.
Kristoffer Gregenaes recorded four saves for Francis Marion.
Flagler out-shot Francis Marion 12-6 and held a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Saints also had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Flagler was whistled for 17 fouls while Francis Marion was caught for 13 infractions.
Up next for Flagler is a trip to Morrow, Georgia to face Clayton State University on Saturday (Oct. 6) for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off.
