ST. AUGUSTINE – James Meehan scored two goals and assisted on another as No. 9 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Florida Southern College defeated Flagler College 3-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match Tuesday night at Saints Field.
Florida Southern remained undefeated at 8-0-0 while Flagler dropped to 2-5-0.
Meehan got the Mocs on the board early when he scored on a pass into the box from Julian Jordan-Canosa in the second minute.
It was Meehan again, this time in the eighth minute, but getting a pass from Christoph Gums and then he took the ball in and scored.
Nearly six minutes later, Meehan's pass to the right set-up Pablo Gallo Arias' goal in the 14
th minute.
Tryggvi Magnusson tried to get the Saints on the board in the 31
st minute, but his header was saved by Florida Southern keeper Benny Yusufoglu.
Yusufoglu recorded the one save for the Mocs in the shutout.
Mel Broughton tallied a career-high nine saves, including one on a penalty kick.
Florida Southern out-shot Flagler 15-6, including 12-1 in shots on goal. Both teams had four corner kicks. The Moccasins were whistled for 14 fouls while the Saints were tagged with 11.
Flagler returns to Peach Belt action on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Francis Marion University at Saints Field.
