Saints start quick but No. 4 Lady Cougars rally to win

ST. AUGUSTINE – Olivia Jarrell scored two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on another as No. 4 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Columbus State University rallied to defeat Flagler College 4-3 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field.

Columbus State remains undefeated at 4-0-1 overall and wins its conference opener. Flagler had its two-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 3-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Jarrell scored the game-winner in the 81st minute when she took the ball into the box and put the ball into the back of the net to complete the rally. The Lady Cougars trailed 3-1 in the first half.

The Saints got off to another quick start as Sara Sandberg scored her sixth goal of the season when she knocked in a rebound of Myiah Russack-Cradeur in the fourth minute. It's the third time this season Flagler has scored a goal in the first four and one-half minutes of a match.

A little over three minutes later, Charlene Nowotny scored on a set piece just five yards outside the top of the penalty box.

After Jarrell's first goal, Annie Breen gathered a loose ball in front of the goal and fired a shot into the net in the 21st minute.

The Saints took that 3-1 lead into the half.

Columbus State cut the deficit to one when Riley Clark scored off a Jarrell assist in the 51st minute. Kimmy May set-up Flo Spano just off the goal line for the equalizer.

Bria Rancho recorded three saves for the Lady Cougars while Sarah-Lisa Dubel also tallied three saves.

Flagler out-shot Columbus State 15-12, but the Lady Cougars held a slight 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. CSU enjoyed a 7-3 spread in corner kicks and the Saints were whistled for 13 fouls.

Flagler heads to Clayton State University on Saturday (Sept. 22) for a 1 p.m. match at Morrow, Georgia.
