Saints fall in a pitcher’s duel, 2-0

ST. AUGUSTINE – Kolton Ingram (11-3) tossed a one-hit shutout to lead No. 10 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 25) Columbus State University to a narrow 2-0 win over Flagler College in a pool play round game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Friday evening at Drysdale Field.

Columbus State improved to 39-11 overall while Flagler dropped to 30-21.

Ingram fanned 10 batters and walked just three in a complete game win. After allowing a lead-off walk in the first inning, Ingram retired the next 11 batters in a row. He retired the last 12-of-13 batters he faced. Ingram allowed only two baserunners to reach scoring position.

Ingram got all of the offense he needed when Chase Brown belted a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall in the first inning to stake the Cougars to a 1-0 lead.

It was Brown again in the third inning with an RBI single through the right side of the infield, which barely scored Drew Webb from second base.

Flagler's Louis Pugliese (3-3) was equally as impressive as he tossed his first collegiate complete game. He allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and only two walks. Pugliese retired 11 batters on fly outs and another seven on ground outs.

Jason Moore broke up the no-hit bid with a base hit to right field with two outs in the fourth inning.

Flagler will continue pool play with two games on Saturday (May 12). The Saints take on Young Harris College at 10 a.m. and then wrap up pool play action against No. 26 USC Aiken at approximately 5 p.m. Both games will be played at Drysdale Field.
