ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College blanked Young Harris College in the opener on Saturday, 11-0, in pool play in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Drysdale Field. The Saints lost later in the afternoon, 4-2, to No. 26 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 25) USC Aiken to finish 1-2 in Pool B.
Flagler concluded its season with a 31-22 record. USC Aiken improved to 35-18 and advance to the championship game on Sunday (1 p.m.) against the winner of Pool A at Drysdale Field. Young Harris ended its season with a 26-24 record.
The Saints began the day with an 11-0 rout, in seven innings due to the 10-run rule, of the Mountain Lions.
Ethan Crout led off the game with a home run over the right field wall and later,
Ja'Kobi Dasher hit a two-run single to give Flagler a commanding 3-0 lead.
That would be all
Jett Walsh (8-2) would need as he tossed a complete game four-hit shutout, his first shutout of the season. Walsh walked four and struck out one. He retired 13 batters on fly outs and another six on ground outs. After allowing a lead-off single in the first inning, Walsh retired 14-of-the-next-16 batters.
Sean Lawlor blasted a two-run home run to right field in the fifth inning and back-to-back RBI singles by
Dillon Reed and
Aaron Anderson keyed a four-run sixth.
Reed paced the 14-hit Flagler offensive attack as he collected three singles, scored three runs and had one run batted in. Lawlor finished 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. Dasher singled twice and knocked in two runs while
Steven DiPuglia hit a pair of singles and scored two runs.
Ethan Crout went 2-for-3 with the home run, a single and two runs scored.
Blake Metivier (1-3) allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
Logan Worley, Jackson Jones, Tyler Washington and Brett Graczyk each hit a single for Young Harris.
In the second game, Crout reached on a single in the first, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on Anderson's hit to put the Saints on the board first.
In the top of the third, a lead-off walk to Brady O'Neil and a bunt single by Chandler Rogers put runners on first and second. Another bunt single, this one by Jose Bonilla loaded the bases. Daulton Weeks hit into a 6-4-3 double play, but O'Neil scored to tie the game.
Brian Parreira belted a three-run home run in the fifth inning to stake the Pacers to a 4-1 lead.
Crout's RBI single in the eighth scored Flagler's final run of the season.
Zach Rafuse (5-3) scattered 10 hits over 7 2/3 innings. He fanned five and walked four while allowing two earned runs. Daniel Wiggins pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings to record his fifth save.
Bonilla and Rogers each collected two singles for USC Aiken.
Robert Girgis (5-5) allowed four runs on seven hits in eight innings pitched for Flagler. He walked five and fanned five.
Nikolas Dague collected three singles while Crout went 3-for-5, all singles, with a run scored and one RBI in his final game at Flagler.
The Saints stranded 12 runners on base, seven of which were in scoring position.
