Saints drop regular season finale in 10 innings

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Maggie Scott's game-ending RBI single in the 10th inning gave No. 23 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University a 3-2 win over Flagler College in a non-conference softball game Sunday afternoon at the ERAU Softball Stadium.

Embry-Riddle concluded its regular season with a three-game winning streak and a 33-13 record. Flagler lost its third game in a row and wrapped up its regular season with a 26-26 record.

Peqe Lopez led off the bottom of the 10th with an infield hit to shortstop. Destiny Carroll followed by reaching first base on a fielding error by Flagler first baseman Natalie Murphy. The next batter reached on a fielder's choice as Lopez was put out 5-6 at third base. A walk loaded the bases and then Scott followed with the walk-off single.

The Saints grabbed an early lead when Morgan Murphy hit a solo home run in the second inning and then scored an unearned run in the third to take a 2-0 lead.

Scott's RBI single in the third cut Flagler's lead in half and the Eagles tied it in the sixth with an unearned run. Katy Thompson led off the sixth with a single up the middle and was sacrificed over to second. Carroll's single to left put runners on the corners. Two batters later, Lisa Hop reached on a fielding error by Flagler shortstop NaJah Gerrald. That miscue allowed Thompson to score the game-tying run.

Ilona Andringa (21-10) scattered four hits and allowed one earned run over 10 innings. She walked three and fanned four. Andringa retired 18 batters on fly outs and six more on ground outs.

Scott collected four singles and had two runs batted in. Hop hit two singles.

Katlyn McCue (16-13) took the loss in relief. She allowed two unearned runs and scattered nine hits in 7 1/3 innings. Ally Marcano tossed the first two-plus innings.

Morgan collected two singles for the Saints.

Up next for the Saints is the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, May 4-5 at Dahlonega, Georgia. Flagler, the No. 6 seed, opens with Columbus State, the No. 3 seed, at 1:30 p.m. at Hill Stadium on Friday.
