Crout’s walk-off single completes Flagler’s rally

ST. AUGUSTINE – Ethan Crout's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth completed Flagler College's rally in a 3-2 victory over Rollins College in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday night at Drysdale Field.

Flagler snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 29-15 overall. Rollins suffered its 13th consecutive loss and dropped to 16-21.

Trailing 2-1 going into the ninth, Sean Lawlor led off by drawing a walk. That sent Tars reliever Whit Drennan to the showers and in came Caleb Jakes (0-2). Ethan Jones, serving as the designated for the first time this year, came up to sacrifice Lawlor to second. After two failed attempts, Jones ripped a single back up the middle. Steven DiPuglia worked a walk to load the bases with nobody out.

Ja'Kobi Dasher pinch hit for Kenneth Gordon and promptly grounded out to shortstop as Rollins had the infield playing in. Isaiah Russell quickly gathered the grounded and fired home for the force out. Crout followed by hitting a sharp single to center field, which scored Jones from third and DiPuglia sprinted home from second as the throw home went into the backstop.

The Saints managed to collected 10 hits, six off starter Garrett Leonard and two each off relievers Brian Auerbach and Jakes.

Crout finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Dillon Reed and Jason Moore each went 2-for-4 with a double. DiPuglia collected two singles and scored a run.

Jett Walsh (7-1) tossed Flagler's fourth complete game of the year, his first and the team's first since Ryan Ashworth went the distance on March 10 against Georgia Southwestern. He allowed two runs on six hits and fanned seven batters with two walks. Walsh retired 15 batters on ground outs and five more on fly outs.

Nick Santucci had two singles for the Tars and he scored a run. Russell hit a triple in the third and scored on Brendan Brundage's sacrifice fly.

Jakes took the loss in his one-third of an inning in relief. He allowed two hits and the game-winning run.

Flagler will hit the road for the final time in the regular season as it heads to North Carolina to take on UNC Pembroke in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series. The first game is Friday at 7 p.m.
