PEMBROKE, N.C. – No. 24 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) University of North Carolina Pembroke rolled to a 10-2 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Sammy Cox Field.
UNC Pembroke won its third game in a row and improved to 31-12 overall and 12-12 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 29-16 overall and 15-10 in conference play.
Flagler's
Jason Moore belted a two-run homer to left-center to erase a 1-0 deficit in the top of the fourth.
However, the Braves came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Trey Jacobs, Luke Jackson and Seth Hartings hit back-to-back-to-back singles; the last one by Hartings scored Jacobs to tie the game. Connor Grainger followed with a base hit up the middle to plate another run and UNCP never looked back. Hartings scored on the next play, to give the Braves a 4-2 advantage.
UNC Pembroke added insurance runs, two apiece in the last three innings.
Anthony Burke (7-2) scattered seven hits and allowed two runs to earn the win for the Braves. He fanned seven and induced 10 ground outs and nine fly outs.
The Braves pounded out 19 hits. Grainger finished 4-for-4 with a double, a home run and four runs batted in. Trevor Clemmons collected three singles and scored a run. Ethan Baucom added three singles and drove in a run. Jacobs finished with three singles and scored two runs.
Robert Girgis (4-4) took the loss on the hill for the Saints. He allowed five earned runs on 13 hits in six innings of work. He struck out four batters.
Kyle Hansen tossed the final two innings.
Moore went 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBI.
