GREENWOOD, S.C. – Three Flagler College pitchers combined to toss a four-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Dolny Stadium.
Flagler extends its winning streak to 13 and improves to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in the Peach Belt. This is the best start the Saints have had to a season since 2015 when they opened with an 18-2 record. Lander dropped its seventh in a row and fell to 5-12 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
Louis Pugliese (1-0), making his second start of the year, tossed 7 1/3 innings, allowed four hits and struck out a career-high seven batters to earn the win.
Nick Martinez and
Ethan Jones finished up. Jones earned his third save of the season after he retired the Bearcats in order in the ninth.
The Saints scored first for the 10
th time this season. They have won all 10 games.
Dillon Reed drew a one-out walk in the first inning, took second on a groundout and then scored on
Aaron Anderson's single to left.
Frankie Martello added an RBI double in the sixth for insurance, and in the ninth,
Ja'Kobi Dasher (2-4) hit an RBI triple.
Chris Sheehan (0-3) was the hard-luck loser for Lander. He tossed eight innings, scattered four hits and allowed two runs. Sheehan walked four and struck out seven. Two of the batters he walked scored a run.
Bailey Connell, Carson Jones, Colton Yeager and Zack Moore each hit a single for the Bearcats.
Flagler will complete its five-game road swing on Wednesday when it visits Valdosta State University.
