ST. AUGUSTINE –
Aaron Anderson went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and
Jason Moore added two hits, including a double and had three runs batted in as No. 11 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Flagler College defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University 7-4 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 23-4 overall and Palm Beach Atlantic fell to 18-8.
The Saints took advantage of a Sailfish error in the second inning to plate three runs. Moore popped up a foul ball near the first base line, by the Flagler dugout, and the catcher dropped the pop up. Moore took advantage and drilled a two-run double to right-center to give the Saints a 3-2 lead.
Frankie Martello then hit a sinking line drive to right field that PBA's Jake Summey dove to make the catch, but the ball bounced in front of his glove and got by him, which allowed Martello to go all the way to third for a triple.
Flagler added two more insurance runs in the fifth, including Anderson's solo home run.
Palm Beach Atlantic made it interesting at the end, trailing 7-4 in the top of the ninth, the Sailfish had the bases loaded with two outs.
Ethan Jones, working on his second batter, struck out Connor Rowland to end the game.
Ethan Crout was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and one more driven in. He walked twice.
Sean Lawlor belted a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Jett Walsh (4-1) tossed 8 2/3 innings, scattered 10 hits and allowed three runs to pick up the win for Flagler. Jones earned his fifth save of the season.
Summey led the Sailfish going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and one run batted in. Danny Tufariello collected two singles and scored a run.
Lance Fry (2-1) took the loss on the hill for the Sailfish. He tossed four-plus innings, allowed nine hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts. Mitchell Carroll, David Paul and Tyler Hawks worked in relief.
Flagler heads to Lakeland tomorrow (March 21) to take on No. 3 Florida Southern College at 6 p.m.
