Jaclyn Mijuskovic and
Tatum Morgan each hit two home runs as Flagler College split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander University Saturday afternoon at Flagler Field. Lander won the opener, 8-6, and Flagler took the second game, 7-4.
Flagler is now 12-13 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt. Lander leaves with a 15-7 overall record and is 3-1 in conference play.
In the second game, the Saints sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth inning and scored six runs on four hits to break open a game that was tied at 1-all.
Hayley Kirinsky hit a bases clearing double to give Flagler a 4-1 lead, then two batters later, Mijuskovic belted a three-run home run.
The Saints withstood a seventh inning spurt by the Bearcats to hold on for the win. Sydney Grimes hit a two-run double to cut the deficit to three (7-4), but Lander couldn't get any closer.
Katlyn McCue (7-7) allowed two earned runs and five hits in seven innings of work. She walked four and fanned three. McCue retired 10 batters on fly outs and another seven on ground outs.
Kirinsky and Mijuskovic each went 1-for-3 with three runs batted in and a run scored. Morgan scored a pair of runs.
Brianna Surrento (4-3) took the loss for the Bearcats. She allowed seven runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Surrento walked three and struck out five.
Kasey Rogers collected two singles and dove in a run for Lander. Casey Wooten scored two runs.
In the opener, Lander scored early and then held off a rally by Flagler late.
Halie Sorrow socked a three-run home run in the first inning and the Bearcats added two more runs in the second and fourth innings for needed insurance.
The Saints trailed 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth until Mijuskovic hit a two-run home run to left.
Maria Kappos hit a two-run triple to right-center in the seventh to cut Lander-s lead to 8-6, but Flagler couldn't score any more runs.
McKenzi Ferguson (10-2) went the distance and scattered eight hits and allowed six runs. She walked five and struck out six batters.
Sorrow paced the 13-hit attack going 3-for-3 with the home run, a double and three RBI. Kelli McCormack went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Grimes singled twice and scored three runs.
Ally Marcano (5-6) started and pitched 1 1/3 innings. She allowed four hits and five runs. McCue tossed 5 2/3 in relief and scattered nine hits.
Morgan led the Saints going 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Mijuskovic hit a two-run home run and
Rachel Hudson belted a solo pinch-hit home run.
Flagler hosts the University of South Carolina Aiken tomorrow (March 11) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Field in another PBC twinbill.
